. Introduction to Hawthorn Tree

Hawthorn, scientifically known as Crataegus microphylla, is a tree and shrub that grows to a length of 3-7 meters with scattered and sometimes thorny branches, small leaves measuring 1-3 centimeters long, white flowers, and ripe fruits that are red or black.

Geographical distribution:

It is found in Iran (forest areas), Turkey, the Caucasus, and Iraq.

Active compounds:

Fresh hawthorn fruit contains tartaric acid, citric acid, and crataegus acid, pectin, glucose and fructose sugars.


Therapeutic properties and effects:

In general, hawthorn fruit is rich in vitamin C, laxative, and stomach tonic. The flower buds of hawthorn are useful for heart weakness, aortic swelling, nervous disorders such as anxiety, insomnia, tinnitus, and the like. Hawthorn fruit has a cold temperature  and dry nature.
