Introduction to Pussy willow
Willow, with the scientific name of Salix aegyptiaca L, is a large shrub or tree that reaches a height of 8-10 meters. It has thin one-year-old branches, oval-shaped flowering buds, and relatively large leaves.
Geographical Distribution:
This plant is found in Iran, southeastern Turkey, southeastern Caucasus, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. In Iran, it is found in the provinces of Gorgan, Mazandaran, Gilan, Fars, Kerman, Tehran, and Azerbaijan.
Active Ingredients:
One of the most famous compounds in Willow is salicylic acid.
Therapeutic Properties and Effects:
Willow strengthens brain and heart function, has a calming effect on the mind, acts as a laxative for phlegmatic temperaments, and relieves headaches with warm temperaments. Avicenna wrote that Willow (Bahramaj) has a pleasant scent and its infusion can reduce swelling. Its flowers and leaves can treat headaches caused by dense winds. It also has diuretic properties and can help with stomach issues. Willow tea is useful for treating insomnia and facial acne. In traditional medicine, Willow is considered to have a warm and moist temperament.
